Has there been any specific incident, any fan moment when you have realised how deeply your portrayal of Shri Krishna has touched lives?īut there have been instances when people have told me that the way you enact the role we see our lord Krishna in you. The audience understands and I don’t think in today’s day and age people worship actors who play God or Goddess on screen. But I am lucky people started loving me and connected. Then to actually make them accept me as Shri Krishna was a very big task for me. I also did Dil Dosti Dance, I played a villain in Ashoka. Also I started my career as a dancer from Dance India Dance. People today understand that we are actors and we are just portraying the roles. When you're playing the role of a God in social life, how much sacrifice do you have to do? I have taken inspiration from all of them and I added what I can do. I just focus on myself and try to become a better version of myself. For me it is always what I understand of the character and how I play it. People compare you with them and then competition is created. I don’t believe that when you are going to play a part you are competing with anyone. I can take motivation from them but will never compare myself to anyone. If someone is better than me, I can only learn from him and do my job better. I don’t think it would be right on my part. I would never compare myself to Swwapnil Joshi or Nitish Bharadwaj. Was there ever a pressure of being compared to actors like Swwapnil Joshi, Nitish Bharadwaj who earlier played the role of Lord Krishna? I tried my best to make myself a much better actor. I made sure to work on myself and learn a lot during the waiting period. I will say maybe if I had played this role in 2016, I might have not been able to do so well. That helped me a lot in acting and I utilised that knowledge. During that time I did a few movies and met people from whom I learnt a lot. I always told myself maybe I am not ready for the role yet and it is a God’s sign of telling me. I took the waiting period very positively. I waited for the show for two-and-a half years. Then in 2018 October the show was launched. I was roped in July 2016 for the role of Lord Krishna but in September the show got cancelled. But I made sure to understand every aspect of life and the journey of discovering lord Krishna has been an interesting one. I can never understand or know how Shri Krishna will think in a situation because he is multi-dimensional.
I researched a lot and tried to understand how different each character was and how I will make my role different. I read a lot of books and saw the shows and portrayal of other actors who have played the role of Lord Krishna earlier. I had a lot of time in hand before enacting the role.
I have understood one thing that no matter how difficult things get, you should never give up and continue the hard work.
But when the show did not work out everything fell flat. I did all this to have a better understanding of him who came 5000 years ago. It had only Shri Krishna's book and a flute. The house had nothing, no television set and not even a wifi connection. I had bought a house close to my show's set to stay so that I can concentrate on the character and be away from friends. When you are heavily relying on something and you are taking a role very seriously, and it doesn't work out you feel disappointed. You had to wait for the show for two and a half years, how was the waiting period? The more I understood about Lord Krishna, the more curiosity it created inside me and I started learning things about him. I try to implement at least a few things because trying is the first step. Whatever I emote on screen, I try to apply in my life also. How much have you imbibed after playing the role of Lord Krishna in RadhaKrishn? The 24-year-old also opened up about the rejections he had to face because he was unconventional looking and they thought he did not have the prerequisites to mark an entry into the entertainment industry as a hero.
